2017 to 2021
- December 29, 2017: Dr. Hongbo Pang officially joined the Department of Pharmaceutics at the University of Minnesota!
- May 2018: Dr. Hongbo Pang's paper, a collaboration with Dr. Michael Sailor and his group at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), was published in Nature Communications: Immunogene therapy with fusogenic nanoparticles modulates macrophage response to Staphylococcus aureus.
- March 2019: Dr. Pang presented a talk at the Cold Spring Harbor Asia Meeting (Bacterial Infection & Host Defense) in Suzhou, China.
- March 2019: The first Pang Lab paper was accepted for publication in the Journal of Controlled Release. Congrats to Dr. Tang Tang and Dr. Yushuang Wei!
- July 2019: Dr. Hongbo Pang received a four-year R01 grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) titled "Deciphering the nanomaterial uptake in a bystander manner invoked by coadministration of functionalized nanoparticles."
- July 25, 2019: Our paper, "Cellular internalization of bystander nanomaterial induced by TAT-nanoparticles and regulated by extracellular cysteine," was accepted by Nature Communications. Congrats to Dr. Yushuang Wei (first author) and Dr. Tang Tang!
- August 2, 2019: Our Journal of Control Release paper was featured in a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) news release.
- November 2019: Our paper, "Rapid chelator-free radiolabeling of quantum dots for in vivo imaging," was published in Nanoscale. Congrats to Dr. Tang Tang!
- January 2020: Dr. Hongbo Pang was awarded a UMN-Mayo Partnership grant of $878,000. The aim of the grant is to improve the drug delivery efficiency for pediatric brainstem cancer.
- March 2021: Our paper, "iRGD-liposomes Enhance Tumor Delivery and Therapeutic Efficacy of Antisense Oligonucleotide Drugs Against Primary Prostate Cancer and Bone Metastasis," was accepted for publication in Advanced Functional Materials. Congrats to Dr. Jibin Guan, Dr. Hong Guo, and all of the co-authors!
- April 2021: Our paper, "Transportan peptide stimulates the nanomaterial internalization into mammalian cells in the bystander manner through macropinocytosis," was accepted for publication in Pharmaceutics. Congrats to Yuexuan Li and all of the co-authors!
- May 2021: Our paper, "Membrane-curvature-mediated co-endocytosis of bystander and functional nanoparticles," a collaborative effort with Dr. Kai Yan at Soochow University, was accepted for publication in Nanoscale. Congrats to Dr. Yushuang Wei (co-first author)!
- September 2021: Dr. Hongbo Pang was invited to give a seminar in the Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Utah.
- December 2021: Our paper, "Extracellular vesicles mediate the intercellular exchange of nanoparticles," was accepted for publication in Advanced Science. Congrats to Dr. Xian Wu and all co-authors for their nice work!
- December 2021: Dr. Hongbo Pang was awarded with an Office of Academic Clinical Affairs (OACA) faculty research development grant for the project "Peptide-targeted delivery to improve the efficacy and safety of corticosteroid drugs against rheumatoid arthritis," conducted in collaboration with Dr. Tanya Freedman in the Department of Pharmacology.
2022 to Present
- March 2022: Our paper, "Synergistic entry of individual nanoparticles into mammalian cells driven by free energy decline and regulated by their sizes," was accepted for publication in ACS Nano. Congrats to Dr. Yushuang Wei and all of the co-authors for their fabulous work!
- June 2022: Dr. Hongbo Pang delivered poster and podium presentations titled "Peptide-guided delivery improves the therapeutic efficacy and safety of glucocorticoid drugs for treating inflammatory diseases" at the American Peptide Society annual symposium in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada.
- August 2-5, 2022: Dr. Hongo Pang and Dr. Xian Wu delivered poster presentations at the Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) Drug Carriers in Medicine and Biology conference in West Dover, Vermont.
- August 18, 2022: We bid farewell to Dr. Yushuang Wei, who will join the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenzhen, Guangdong. Best wishes for the next exciting chapter of his academic career!
- August 19, 2022: Congratulations to Yuexuan Li on receiving the Edward G. Rippie Fellowship in Pharmaceutics!
- August 24, 2022: Our paper, "Co-administration of Transportan Peptide Enhances the Cellular Entry of Liposomes in the Bystander Manner Both In Vitro and In Vivo," was accepted for publication in Molecular Pharmaceutics. Congrats to co-first authors Yuexuan Li and Nianwu Wang!
- September 22, 2022: Congratulations to Dr. Hong Guo for winning the Abstract Award at the University of Minnesota's Pharmacology Retreat!
- October 12, 2022: Our paper "Identification of an ALK-2 inhibitor as an agonist for intercellular exchange and tumor delivery of nanomaterial," was accepted for publication in Advanced Therapeutics. Congrats to Dr. Xian Wu (first author) and all of the co-authors for their wonderful work!
- January 4, 2023: Our paper, "Peptide-guided delivery improves the therapeutic efficacy and safety of glucocorticoid drugs for treating acute lung injury," was accepted for publication in Molecular Therapy. Congrats to Dr. Hong Guo (first author) and all of the co-authors for their fabulous work!
- April 2023: We say farewell to Dr. Hong Guo, Dr. Yuexuan Li, and Jiaqi Zhao and wish them the best of luck in their future careers.
- June 2023: Congrats to Mitch Kowalke on being selected for the highly competitive 3M Fellowship!
- September 2023: We welcome three new lab members for the fall semester: Mitch Kowalke (PhD student), Nianwu Wang (PhD student), Hae Chan Kim (PhD student)!
- February 2024: Our paper, "Peptide targeting improves the delivery and therapeutic index of glucocorticoids to treat rheumatoid arthritis," was accepted for publication in the Journal of Controlled Release. Congrats to Dr. Xian Wu and Dr. Hong Guo (co-first authors), and all of the co-authors!
- January 2025: Our paper on Dex-PEG variants was accepted by Molecular Pharmaceutics for publication. Congrats to Dr. Xian Wu and all of the co-authors!
